The Norvel AME-061 represents another AME-049 development branch that ran parallel to the now defunct Stels engines but, unlike them, it is very much alive and is well regarded as an entry level F1J engine. The Norvel AME-061 is a bored out version of the Norvel AME-049 and has many parts in common. It is a plain bearing engine using AAN (aluminium, aluminium, nickel) cylinder technology and a special button plug. With their low cost they provide a useful entry path to the American Junior Team F1J/F1P program.

These are light engines that can be competitive in F1J on light models. Gil Morris has been using the AME 06 in his POP-UP design, where it has been a consistent winner.

October 2009: Norvel appear to be out of business. Their website is now a link farm operated by Tucows. Engines and parts are no longer stocked by SIG.
